A new bridge is being built on a dirt road between downtown Minneapolis and the north Minneapolis suburb of Haggertsville.
The bridge is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
The new bridge, the first of its kind in the state, is intended to help ease traffic on Interstate 94 and Haggerthorpe Road.
The state Department of Transportation said it’s expected to take a year to build and maintain the bridge.
The project will cost about $1 billion.
The bridge is about 2 miles long, with a 2.5-mile span at the top.
The Minnesota Department of Commerce said the bridge is the first bridge to be built on this section of highway since the 1990s.
The $1.5 billion bridge will be constructed along I-94 in downtown Minneapolis.
It will span the I-694 bridge over the Missouri River between downtown and Haggtsville and the Haggertysville Road bridge over I-494.
