The California Highway Patrol has opened an investigation into a crash that killed two people, injuring nine others and left the state with a bill for repairs.
A massive accident occurred Saturday near the town of El Cajon in Orange County, California.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 5 near the intersection of Westlake Boulevard and Hwy.
520 near El Cucamonga.
Authorities said a truck collided with a car traveling eastbound on the freeway.
It caused one of the cars to roll over, and the other vehicle hit a tree and a utility pole.
The two vehicles were not wearing seat belts and were unable to stop.
The crash caused more than $1 million in damage to the roadway.
It was not immediately clear if the victims were pedestrians or cyclists.
The National Transportation Safety Board has opened a separate investigation into the crash.
